You are about to begin one of the most rewarding intellectual journeys available to any human being: the study of Modern Standard Arabic (al-Fusḥā), the language of the Quran, classical literature, international diplomacy, and over 400 million speakers across the Arab world.
Arabic is a root-based morphological system of extraordinary elegance. From a single three-letter root, a trained mind can generate dozens of related words, instantly unlocking vast stretches of vocabulary. The grammar is precise, the literature is ancient and alive, and the script is among the most beautiful writing systems ever created.
This course will not ask you to memorise disconnected word lists. It teaches you to think in Arabic: to recognise roots, predict patterns, construct sentences from first principles, read authentic texts, and speak with clarity and confidence.
How This Course Is Structured
ABC Track — 28 Lessons (Foundation) Master the Arabic alphabet, all short and long vowels, and essential reading skills. By the end you will read and write fluently in Arabic script.
Mastery Track — 120 Lessons (A1 to C1) One grammatical concept per lesson, built cumulatively. Each lesson: authentic reading passage, grammar drill, vocabulary in context, listening exercise, speaking challenge, and a culture corner from across the Arab world.
Every Mastery lesson targets all four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking — because real fluency requires all four working together.
The Teaching Philosophy
This course synthesises the finest Arabic pedagogical works ever produced:
Al-Arabiyya Bayna Yadayk — communicative fluency through graded dialogue and authentic situations
Al-Kitāb fī Taʿallum al-ʿArabiyya — rigorous MSA grammar with rich cultural context
Madinah Arabic — classical grammatical precision and systematic verb analysis
Abboud & McCarus — Elementary MSA — full case endings and morphological depth
Karin Ryding’s Reference Grammar of MSA — the gold standard of Arabic grammatical description
Rather than choosing one approach, this course asks: What would a student learn if they studied all these books simultaneously, with an expert tutor synthesising them in real time? That is what you now hold.
The Gift of Roots
From the root ك ت ب (k-t-b, “to write”) Arabic generates:
كَتَبَ
kataba — he wrote
كِتَابٌ
kitāb — a book
كَاتِبٌ
kātib — a writer
مَكْتَبَةٌ
maktaba — library
مَكْتُوبٌ
maktūb — written / fate
مَكْتَبٌ
maktab — office
This is the gift of Arabic: every word you learn opens a door to dozens more. By the time you finish this course, you will not merely know Arabic — you will understand it.
How to Study Each Lesson
Read the cultural corner first — context makes grammar memorable
Study the vocabulary — say each word aloud, note its root and pattern
Read the passage slowly — use the transliteration as a bridge, never a crutch
Answer the comprehension questions — test yourself before moving on
Work through every drill — transformation drills build grammatical automaticity
Complete the quiz — six questions consolidate the main grammar point
Record your speaking task — production, even imperfect, accelerates acquisition
Study the root of the week — connect each lesson to the Arabic lexical family tree
مَنْ جَدَّ وَجَدَ
“Whoever strives, finds.” — Arabic proverb
The scholars of Baghdad, Córdoba, Cairo, and Samarkand built the foundations of modern science and philosophy in this language. You are about to enter that tradition. Approach it with patience, joy, and ambition.

Meet your teacher
I learned Arabic the same way you will
I was born and raised in Toronto — I'm not a native speaker. I memorized the Qur'an at 13, then spent 8 years mastering the language the traditional way: nahw, sarf, balaghah.
It worked — but it took years, and I came to realize most of that grammar theory wasn't what actually made me fluent. Understanding the Qur'an and holding a real conversation came from using the language, not memorizing rules about it.
So I built Hindy Institute to give you the shortcut I never had: the Arabic I spent years acquiring, in 15–18 months. We focus on the language itself — every skill you learn, you apply in class, across all four: reading, listening, speaking and writing. I'd love to teach you.

Where this takes you
Imagine yourself a year from now
Not a scholar. Not perfect. But independent — reading, understanding, and speaking Arabic on your own.
📖 You open the Qur'an and follow the meaning directly — no English crutch.
🕌 You stand in salah and understand the words that reach your heart.
🗣️ You hold a real conversation — and follow a lecture, a khutbah, even a show in Arabic.
👨👩👧 You teach your children their first Arabic words — the language of their dīn.
And you won't do it alone. Most people quit Arabic because they hit a wall and lose momentum. In the Academy, a live cohort and a coach keep you accountable, answer your questions, and make sure you actually finish what you started.

Questions
Honest answers before you start
I'm a total beginner — I can't read a single letter. Is this for me?
Yes — this is exactly where Arabic ABC's begins. You'll learn all 28 letters in their four forms, the vowels, and the reading rules, step by step, until you can sound out real words and open the Qur'an. No prior Arabic needed.
How much time do I need each week?
As little as 15–30 minutes a day. The lessons are self-paced, so you can go faster or slower — what matters is consistency, not marathon sessions.
Is it live, or self-paced?
Both — your choice. Every program is fully self-paced with video lessons, an AI tutor and auto-graded quizzes. If you want structure and accountability, the Academy adds a live cohort with real classes and direct mentorship.
I'm busy with work and family. Can I really keep up?
Yes. Self-paced means you fit it around your life, not the other way around. In the Academy, live classes are recorded, so a missed week never means falling behind.
How much does it cost?
Try the first 3 lessons of any course free. Self-Study is a one-time lifetime price (Arabic ABC's from $197, Mastery from $497) or a monthly plan. The Academy adds the live cohort. Full pricing is on the programs page.
What if it's not for me?
Start with the free lessons before you pay a cent. One-time purchases come with a 3-day money-back guarantee, and monthly plans can be cancelled anytime.
Do I have to be Muslim to learn here?
Not at all — anyone who wants to read, speak and understand Arabic is welcome. Many of our students learn to connect with the Qur'an, but the same method works whatever your reason for learning.

💡 Tip: Arabic dictionaries are organised by 3-letter root. كَتَبَ، كِتَاب، كَاتِب، مَكْتَبَة are all found under ك-ت-ب.
Try searching كتب,
درس, or
فتح.
★ Agreement rule: كُلّ takes a singular noun in iḍāfa even when meaning "all"; the verb that follows agrees with the real sense (singular or plural). كُلُّ طَالِبٍ يَدْرُسُ (every student studies — verb singular). كُلُّهُمْ يَدْرُسُون (all of them study — verb plural).

📖 Looking Up a Word in an Arabic Dictionary
Arabic dictionaries (like Hans Wehr) are organised by root, not by the word as written — so the trick is always to find the three-letter root first.
Step 1 · Strip the “extra” letters
A word is root letters + add-ons (prefixes, suffixes, and pattern letters). Every possible add-on comes from ONE traditional set, remembered by the mnemonic سَأَلْتُمُونِيهَا (the letters س ء ل ت م و ن ي ه ا). Any letter not in that set is guaranteed to be a root letter.
A surface ا / و / ي / ى is often a root letter in disguise:
An alif (ا) is never itself a root letter — restore the hidden و or ي: قَالَ → ق-و-ل · بَاعَ → ب-ي-ع
A final ا / ى on the “he” form → the root ends in و or ي: دَعَا → د-ع-و · رَمَى → ر-م-ي
A shadda ( ّ ) is a doubled letter — write it twice: مَدَّ → م-د-د
Step 3 · Look up the root
Roots are ordered alphabetically — by the first root letter, then the second, then the third. So ك-ت-ب lives under ك.
Step 4 · Read the entry
Under the root you’ll find the Form I verb first (with its present-tense vowel + verbal noun), then Forms II–X, then the derived nouns, participles and adjectives. A preposition that “goes with” a verb is listed beside it (رَغِبَ فِي = to desire). Scan for the pattern that matches your word.
Worked example — you meet مَكْتُوب
Letters not in سألتمونيها: ك، ت، ب → root ك-ت-ب (the م is just the مَفْعُول passive-participle pattern).
Look up ك ت ب → “kataba: to write.”
Find مَكْتُوب among the derivatives → “written; a letter.” ✓
You practise this exact skill in Lessons 38–39 and the Hans Wehr Root Hunt tool.
